Installing Metallic And Textured Matte Vinyl On A 707 Horsepower Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

We’ve talked a lot about our VINYL options - how they help protect your paint and can even change the color of your car while preserving the factory paint underneath. In addition to that, vinyl can also change the texture by adding a matte (flat) look, cover the chrome around the window with a different color, highlight door handles, etc.

What can that look like? We recently received a request to apply vinyl to a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. How was this different than the other Challengers we’ve worked on? The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is a high performance variant of the Challenger equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI engine rated at 707 horsepower and 650 lb⋅ft of torque. As CAR and DRIVER states, “Our test car [Challenger SRT Hellcat] roared to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 11.8 seconds at 125 mph” Source. For a street vehicle, those are radical numbers. So the idea of working on this machine was exciting for everyone at Capitol Shine.

This Hellcat came factory with an awesome deep glossy black:

However, the owner wanted to truly separate his vehicle from the pack with a unique look that compliments the body style. The owner chose a metallic matte vinyl film for the body and a textured black matte for the side mirrors, roof and hood.

With the options chosen, we got to work. Applying vinyl is a delicate process that requires precision and a slow-and-steady approach. We want to avoid any air bubbles and imperfections:

For some added pop, we customized the emblems with a deep bright red vinyl to match the brake calipers:

The end result is truly something to behold:

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat:

  • Body: Metallic Matte Vinyl Film

  • Hood, Mirrors, Roof: Textured Black Matte Film

  • Hellcat Emblems: Red Film
