Why We Include Ozone Sterilization Treatment With Full Detail

We want you to know that at Capitol Shine, we are taking all necessary precautions when it comes to cleanliness and sanitation during the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The safety of our customers and staff has always been a top priority at Capitol Shine. While our technicians already wear gloves and masks during detailing as we use a variety of chemicals, we would like to take this opportunity to list some additional, immediate actions we are taking for added security and caution including:

• Reviewing CDC safety guidelines and standards

• Increased sanitation of all shared surfaces

• Increased sanitation and cleaning of all equipment

• Mandatory frequent hand washing for all staff

• Encouraging all employees with any symptoms to stay home

We ask that our customers follow the same practices in order to keep each other healthy and sincerely thank you all for your continued support. What is an "Ozone Treatment"?

An ozone treatment is the use of the gas ozone to remove odors, bacteria, and many viruses. We accomplish this by placing an ozone generator in your vehicle for a designated amount of time, as seen in the illustration above. As the gas works it way throughout your car, truck, van or SUV, odors are neutralized and any bacteria and viruses* are killed. Since this is a gas and not a liquid, the ozone treatment allows the cleaning to happen throughout the vents and unreachable crevices, in addition to covering every inch of the upholstery.

Ozone (O3), also referred to as "activated oxygen", is the second most powerful sterilant in the world. When ozone comes into contact with contaminants such as odors, bacteria or viruses, they are destroyed completely by oxidation. Ozone then reverts back to oxygen after it is used, as the extra atom of oxygen is consumed and there is nothing left.

For the ozone treatment to work, the interior needs to be cleaned first, as it cannot reach what is blocked. This is why vacuuming and wiping down everything is necessary, which we do in our Full Detail.

While testing on ways to combat COVID-19 are well underway, some studies have already been done on Ozone and the benefits of this method. China.org.cn states:
